STILL LIFE:
FRUIT BOWL
Textures:
I created all the textures for this project in Photoshop. Mostly, this consisted of taking textural photos and compositing them over each other and manipulating the images until they created the effect I wanted. The real challenge for this scene was texturing NURBS objects for the first time. I also utilized subsurface scattering for a few of the fruits, most notably the grapes, to get that soft, translucent effect for the fruit's skin.
Lighting:
Lighting:
The goal for this scene was realistic lighting, created with a minimal number of lights. I ended up using these four:
HDRI Skydome:
I found a royalty-free HDRI map from HDRI Haven (https://hdrihaven.com/) and applied it to a skydome light to get the realistic variation of color and light in my scene.
Cool Temperature Skydome:
Once I had an HDRI light in the scene, I turned the intensity on that skydome very low and added another skydome light to colorize the scene a bit more and offset some of the less desirable color information from the HDRI. This brought me to a more realistic lighting situation overall.
Spotlight with Blinds:
To simulate light filtering through blinds, I added a spotlight with a barndoors effect and a gobo to mask out the horizontal lines created by the blinds.
This is the picture I applied to the gobo.
Rim Area Light:
I highlighted the curve of the fruit with a slight rimlight behind the plate.
